LOCAL WILDLIFE

We feed the birds at our lodges so sit back and watch chaffinches, greenfinches, blue tits, great tits, coal tits and gold finches feast everyday. You will also see buzzards, swallows, house martins, great spotted woodpeckers, tree creepers, yellow hammers and various warblers in the surrounding areas. At Corrimony there is a RSPB reserve, well off the beaten track, where golden eagles and crested tits can be seen. Snow buntings can be seen in winter at the Cairngorm mountain centre. Take a trip to the Black Isle and see Red Kites. Ospreys nests near Loch Ness.

The area is alive with more than just birds; roe deer have been seen on the lawn at Torcroft Lodges, red deer at Glen Cannich, pine martens and red squirrels are found in all the surrounding area. Go to Skye or Kyle of Lochalsh to find otters. Beavers have made a successful home at Aigas Field Centre, not 10 miles from Torcroft Lodges. To see the resident dolphins in the Moray Firth visit eco ventures.

Glen Urquhart is full of trees. Here at Torcroft Lodges we have birch, Rowan and Oak. Locally you will spot the famous Caledonian Pine and Silver Fir among others.
