About Swainby Country Park

Swainby Country Park is small, peaceful and secluded. It is situated in the heart of Swainby Village and Surrounded by picturesque National Park moorland: the ideal spot to spend time relaxing and recharging your batteries. Swainby Country Park, first became a holiday park in the 1930s, when the original accommodations were less than salubrious, amounting to little more than large garden sheds. When overseas and some internal travel became difficult during the 2nd World War, many people travelled to the park for family holidays – indeed the park was frequently visited by newly married couples for their honeymoons. When the park was acquired by the Maguire family in 2008 there were few creature comforts here: no electricity, mains water or drainage, and the sheep were the natural lawn mowers! Fast forward to present day and Swainby Country Park is now a nature lovers paradise with some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK right on its doorstep. The views from the park are really quite magnificent and add to the wonderful feeling of being ‘glad to be alive’ that you experience whenever you come here. We do not allow sub-letting at Swainby and there are no tents or tourers, so the only thing to interrupt your peace and quiet are the birds singing. Just perfect!

You’ll find Swainby Village on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

Swainby is a quaint, traditional village surrounded by soft heather moorland within a maze of dry stone walls. It is a small and tranquil village, with a well-stocked shop, a traditional pub and a post office.

Just a short drive away is the market town of Stokesley, where you will find supermarkets, traditional butchers and bakers, restaurants, pubs and a recreation centre. This lovely country town will provide everything you require to make your stay at Swainby Country Park perfect.

The area surrounding Swainby offers a veritable feast of activities from walking the Cleveland Way, which runs right through the village, to a wander around Whorlton Castle and just about everything in between
