About Anwoth Holiday Park

Anwoth Holiday Park, now owned by the next generation of Swalwells (Paul, Neil & Bob) is set inland in the town of Gatehouse of Fleet, maintains the same blend of quality and service that has set its livelier sister park, Auchenlarie, apart from the rest.

If peace and tranquility are for you, they can certainly be found at Anwoth. Some of the finest landscapes and scenery that have inspired Scotlands authors and poets are on your doorstep. In fact, the whole area is a haven for wildlife. Herds of deer can be seen roaming the landscape and, if you can be very quiet, you may have the opportunity to see otters living in their natural habitat. Birds of prey, red squirrels and a host of other wildlife, are all there to be found when you explore. For the fisherman, several major rivers, including the Esk, Annan, Nith, Ken, Dee and Cree, all of them notable for salmon and trout fishing, are close at hand.

All around Dumfries and Galloway you will find evidence of its rich archaeological, historical, literary and artistic past in its earthworks, standing stones, towers, castles, abbeys and other monuments. Whithorn, on the southern tip of the Machars peninsula, is the seat of Christianity in Scotland; Lochmaben was the birth place of Robert the Bruce; Dumfries provided a home and resting place for Robert Burns; Thomas Carlyle was born in Ecclefechan; Kirkpatrick Macmillan invented the bicycle near Thornhill; Sanquhar boasts the oldest active Post Office in Scotland and J M Barrie conceived the well-loved story "Peter Pan" in Dumfries.

Gatehouse is steeped in history with the water mill renovated and even the very room in which Robert Burns wrote his famous poem "Scots Wha Hae". Although the 20 or more hotels and inns are now reduced to 4 you will find a warm welcome awaiting you wherever you go.
